Wolfgang Petersen ("The Perfect Storm") will direct "Batman vs. Superman," reports Variety. Slated for a 2004 release, the film will focus on the conflicting philosophies of goody-boy Superman and bad-ass Batman.
The film is outside the realm of both the "Batman" and "Superman" franchises and has nothing to do with other standalone projects like Darren Aronofsky's "Batman: Year One" or McG's "Superman."
Casting for "Batman vs. Superman" has yet to begin, but Petersen says Matt Damon is the type of actor he's looking for. Damon, Petersen says, is "an interesting action man and a hell of an actor."
