Eisner's "Spirit" Under Cooke's Control

If you haven’t already read Darwyn Cooke’s “New Frontier” mini-series from DC Comics you should shut your computer down now, go out to your local comic shop, buy “New Frontier” and spend the rest of today reading this epic series. When you’re finished, you’ll be that much more prepared for Mr. Cooke’s next body of work, “The Spirit”. Based on Will Eisner’s seminal creation, The Spirit is a crime/noir story, taking place in a seedy city full of crooked criminals and dishonest dames. Cooke is the first person to take this character on, in an ongoing, monthly format, in years.

Newsarama has an excellent article announcing the release of this new series as well as the “Batman/Spirit” one-shot due to premier a month before the ongoing series’ first issue hits shelves. Take a trip over there and read the story….link follows: THE SPIRIT @ NEWSARAMA

If anyone is capable of telling the Spirit’s story it’s Cooke, his 300+ page “New Frontier” sold me on his ability to write and draw a comic even more than his awesome “Slam Bradley” and “Catwoman” stories. Cooke got his start working in Warner Bros. animation, providing art for “Batman: The Animated Series” and “Batman Beyond”. His career and current body of work are examined in detail over at the Will Eisner: A Spirited Life Interview Series blog.

If you would like to know more about Darwyn Cooke, please follow the LINK to an in depth interview conducted over at silverbulletcomicbooks.com.
