Countdown: DC's Next Weekly Comic

It's now all over the interwebs, but DC took advantage of the New York Comic-Con to announce their next weekly comic entitled Countdown.

The event of the year is here! This brand-new, year-long weekly series features a cast of hundreds where anything goes! With head writer Paul Dini and a rotating team of some of the industry’s best writers and artists, COUNTDOWN will serve as the backbone of the DCU in 2007.

There's a lot to look at in this picture, including a very alive and re-armored Steel. There's an OMAC, The Red Hood, Black Adam and someone who is either Klarion or the Legion's Karate Kid. Of course, DC has played with our heads before with preview images (such as the initial image of Justice League of America versus the final cover).

DC, why must you play with my mind...?

So, another weekly? Sure. I'm down. 52 has been a good read, and this series won't be beholden to the goofy one-year time gap that 52 caused going into OYL.

It will also be an interesting experiment to see how the DCU holds up with a central backbone defining how the rest of the universe must behave. Is a comic like this the real secret to maintaining continuity?

So, what do you think? Is another weekly comics too much for the mind and pocket book? Am I a sucker for falling into their trap?
Questions? Comments? Come on, I can take it.
