The way that the Japanese view anime is akin to the way Hollywood views their Oscar nominees. It is a highly revered form of art. Looking at it from a comic book angle, it's the ultimate comic book on screen. This ain't your Justice League Unlimited! (not that there's anything wrong with that show. It is quite enjoyable)
