Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is one of the best holidays. You don't have to buy any gifts, cards, or decorations. It has no religious overtones, so you don't have to worry about offending anyone when you wish them a Happy Thanksgiving. Unless you are doing the cooking, there is barely any pressure at all. All you have to do is show up, gorge yourself, and pass out. Who doesn't like to do that? And there is nothing better than sleeping it off in front of the TV. Here are some DVDs you can enjoy as you doze on the couch in a tryptophan induced food coma:

  • King Kong/Son of Kong/Mighty Joe Young -There is no real holiday connection here, other than the local TV stations always aired them on Thanksgiving. And I'd always watch them. So I've come to associate them with it.

  • Miracle on 34th Street -The original is a great holiday classic. The bonus here is if you missed the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade you can see footage of the 1946 parade at the beginning of the movie. As far as I'm concerned, Edmund Gwenn was Kris Kringle.

  • March of the Wooden Soldiers -Another old movie that always seemed to be on during Thanksgiving. Laurel and Hardy, characters from nursery rhymes, and the unforgettable ending march of the toy soldiers, I can't imagine a better movie to fall asleep to.

  • A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving -As a kid, no holiday was ever complete without a Charlie Brown special about it.
