Cinemanow Starts Download-to-Burn, well...Now!

Um, yeah...we know we just posted about Movielink's future plans to allow download-to-burn. How were we to know that Cinemanow would launch the very service we were comtemplating just yesterday as "a step in the right direction" and calling Apple to the table to get it right? Let us remove our feet from our proverbial mouths and get on with it.

As we so humbly stated, Cinemanow has announced 100 titles that have been released for immediate availability to download and burn to DVD, menus and special features intact. Currently only Windows-and-IE-supported (at least they didn't throw out the hateraide for Firefox immediately upon entrance to the site), Cinemanow provides a software burner presumably to keep all DRM intact during the transfer and burn. This begs the question - can they plug the analog hole once the movie has been burned to DVD, foiling pirates everywhere that are surely eyeing the new service. Cinemanow provides a free sample file to try on for size, so expect an update from our panel of esteemed geeks in the near future.

Prices start at $8.99 and soar all the way up to $19.99, depending on the title, proving once again that the industry still has its head firmly planted in its posterior when it comes to pricing digital wares. Don't expect any recent titles yet - these are specially selected releases from the past.

Now, if someone will just please write in and tell us why "I-Spy" is a featured title for the service, and we'll put our feet back in our mouths.
