We know you're as tired as we are of all the dreadful news coming from the next-gen DVD camps, so we've decided to lighten things up a tad and delve into the seedy world of Apple rumor-mongering (if you're trying to ruin your weekend, there's plenty of ways to do it here and here, to name a few, but don't say we didn't warn you).
Now about this time every year (well, ok, it's actually every few months) the rumors start flying over what Apple is going to announce at their next event. Well, iPod season has officially arrived, that time of year when geeks get antsy about the mystery surrounding everyone's favorite mp3 player, wondering what His Jobness is going to release for the holidays.
The most interesting conjecture to us is the possibility that Apple will finally begin offering movie downloads (we are a movie news site after all), at the possible price-point of $14.99 for new flicks and $9.99 for older titles. This rumor actually has some teeth, considering that Wal-mart has been heard complaining to industry insiders in regards to the fact that they pay around $17 wholesale to sell hard copies in their stores.
Are we missing something here? If that report is true, does Wal-mart not understand that we would more than likely be getting a lower-res version of the movies, no special features, no hard copy DVD and booklet to ogle, with no ability to re-download the flicks if we lost them due to a hard drive failure (this is Apple's current practice with music). With all of those limitations, we think $14.99, or even $9.99, is an outrage.
But then again, this is not exactly a poop sheet, is it?
I guess we'll just have to wait until He Who Wears the Black Turtleneck takes the stage, possibly at a September 12th media event, and lays the smack down to all the rumor sites.
Stay tuned to ThinkSecret.com for updates to this, and other, wild speculations.
You could always get a waterproof iPod case, he he:

I'm waiting for the iPod Inviso myself. :-)

I hope Jobs introduces the underwater Ipod. I'd love to be able to listen to cheesy Casio beats while I'm snorkelling around sea
