We don't know about you, but Steve Irwin was pretty much a regular staple on our television sets. If there was ever a moment during channel surfing when we ran across the extroverted crocodile chaser, you could lay a pretty decent bet that we were stopping for the duration of the show. Whatever your feelings for the guy, you have to admit that his contributions to the field were astounding, even based solely on the amount of awareness he brought to the subject matter.
The report of his strange - and somewhat ironic - death had more impact on our families than anyone would have imagined. The zeal and obvious love Irwin brought to his subject matter was palpable anytime you watched him, and to suddenly realize that his shining presence would no longer be around made the world seem just a bit more lackluster in the moments we mourned him worldwide.
We felt a simmering satisfaction when we heard that EMI was going to release a DVD tribute to Steve Irwin's legacy. Somehow it just feels right, as if a final hole in the world will be filled, bringing closure to a chapter of someone's life that surely affected us all in one way or another. The DVD, entitled "He Changed Our World," will be released on November 14th and contain the memorial service held in Australia last month, as well as an interview with Irwin and family members regarding his work.
Royalties from the DVD will go to the Wildlife Warrior's fund established by Irwin to fund endangered species habitat protection, as well as his Australian wildlife hospital.
R.I.P. Steve Irwin, and God Bless.

The old saying is true, "you don't miss something till it's gone." None of us realized just how much Steve really meant to all of us and the world until he was taken away. Now we all have a big empty-ness that is crying out to be filled. I hope the new DVD will help each of us as we mourn his loss.
My family and I all loved Steve like he was a part of our own family and he will be forever missed. We had planned someday to go to the Australia Zoo just to meet him and his family and were thrilled when we heard that he was planning on building a zoo near Las Vegas. I have not heard yet if they have changed their minds on building it now or not. I, for one, surely hope that they do.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Terri and children and Bob SR and all the workers at the Australian Zoo. I know you are all dedicated to Steve and his work and will carry on the torch for him.
Best wishes to you all,
S. A. Spicer
