"Baywatch" Seasons 1 and 2 Splash to DVD Box Sets

Oh, David Hasselhoff, you smug S.O.B. - look at you in your swimming trunks, wandering the beach shirtless with a red Baywatch Lifeguard jacket. You define the word smarmy. We see those eyes, staring us down from the cover of the DVD box set. We know what those eyes are trying to say to us - oh yes, we do. Things like "What happened to the true first season of my show, the one that got cancelled by NBC?" and "What is this canned crappy replacement music on the DVDs - don't they know I can sing?!"

We hear ya, Hoffmeister. We're not sure why the DVD sets are being billed as Seasons 1 and 2, when technically they are Seasons 2 and 3 (although you could argue that these are the first 2 seasons of syndication). Whatever. We'll leave that one for the purists to debate until the sun sets on an L.A. beach.

We are here to talk about the meat of the 2 DVD sets that were recently released (and no, we're not talking about all the bods in bouncing red swimsuits either). We'll overlook the fact that the 2-part season opener entitled "Nightmare Bay" is mysteriously missing from the Season 1 discs. We'll even overlook you, Lt. Mitch - how you allowed Megan to act as bait for the insane fisherman, how you botched your lines in a movie-role only to turn an attack by a drug-crazed man into a scene for the same flick, or the time you mistook a drowning victim for a paper bag.

Instead, we'll focus on what everyone wants - the chases, the fights, the dramatic passion of outstanding acting - alright, alright, we know you're here to find out when Pamela Anderson started the show. For all you members of the Beach Towel Club, she started in Season 2 (in the box-set universe), and the good news is that you get to watch her bounce down the beach for 4 more seasons, should First Look Pictures decide to release the remainders.
