Since Bryan Singer meant for "Superman Returns" to be the spiritual sequel to "Superman II," it only makes sense to revisit the source material before watching Singer's creation (a fact we failed to do before hitting the theatre for "Returns").
Harry over at Ain't It Cool News recently geeked out over the new DVD cut of "Superman II" supervised by Richard Donner, and we have to say that it's reinvigorated our desire to Netflix the classic and watch the old and new Supermen back-to-back. Here's a quick run-down of the changes:
- Replicating Superman scene cut.
- "Super Kiss" cut.
- Fight in Metropolis grander, with Superman being tossed into the Statue of Liberty instead of a building.
- Superman reverses time at the end, similar to number 1.
- Opening scene in Paris, Niagara jump, and other scenes cut.
- Brando's final farewell
Overall, Harry bubbles with excitement over this version, so be sure to click the link above and read the full review.
As for us, we've got a long "Super" DVD session in the works for this weekend.
