According to various reports around the Interwebs that are coming out of CES in Las Vegas, the HD-DVD/Blu-ray format war may finally be coming to an end!
What virtuous and magnificent entity do we have to thank for the resolution to this teeth-clenching, frustration-inducing affair? Why the, um, porn industry. Yeah, you heard that right.
Apparently spokespersons out of several camps of the porn industry have given their insights into the next-gen format they'd be embracing. The winner? HD-DVD, which, according to those interviewed, is easier to manufacture and less costly to produce than Blu-ray discs.
Those of you that have been around long enough to remember may recollect another format war from years gone by - namely Betamax versus VHS - and a very strong argument can be made that the porn industry's choice of VHS distribution played a vital role in the death of Betamax.
Will HD-DVD rise as the victor of this battle? Or will digital downloads speed from infancy to maturity in time to trump all formats? Only time will tell, but the porn industry's choice of HD-DVD may just turn the tide.
