Angelina Jolie Signs on to "Beowulf"

If you're going to have Robert Zemeckis direct the forthcoming Hollywood adaptation of "Beowulf," you might as well add Angelina Jolie to the mix. According to the Guardian, that's exactly what's been done. It's unclear whether she'll be playing Beowulf, Grendel or Hrothgar, but considering her work in "The Bone Collector" and "Taking Lives," we're certain she's up to the task.

Coincidentally, there's also an Icelandic film version awaiting release, this one titled "Beowulf and Grendel." It's too early to tell if the two films will find themselves competing for your entertainment dollar, but chances are they'll simply draw welcome attention to each other. At least we can be reasonably sure it won't turn into another "Exorcist" prequel debacle.--Pete Mesling
