Strong winds are gathering behind the much-anticipated "Masters of Horror" anthology series for Showtime, and the scale of the thing is a total knockout. Thirteen of the best directors in the field have been hired to helm as many one-hour episodes, and it all begins October 28.
Among the 13 directors involved are such mavericks as Dario Argento, John Carpenter, Mick Garris and George A. Romero. Good enough, you say? But there's more! The list of writers and actors isn't any less impressive. Expect to see Don Coscarelli direct his second Joe R. Lansdale story and Stuart Gordon to return to his Lovecraft-adapting roots, just to give you an example of what we're dealing with here.
Other writers connected with the series include Larry Cohen, Richard Christian Matheson and David J. Schow. Jeffrey Combs, Robert Englund and Angus Scrimm are among the actors you can look forward to seeing. If this series doesn't absolutely fly out of the park, I'm blaming it all on solar flares.--Pete Mesling
