Win Chance to Enter Stephen King's World

I'm beginning to think that news of Stephen King's retirement has been greatly exaggerated. According to his official Web site, he's got not one but two brand-new novels coming out: one in October of this year--"The Colorado Kid"--and one expected to see the light of day in 2006 or 2007--"Cell." "The Colorado Kid" is a pulpy crime novel that will kick off the Hard Case Crime line's second year, but "Cell" is a horse of another color entirely.

For one thing, it's not just a novel. There's an auction attached! King is auctioning off the opportunity for you to become a character in the novel. No, the Master of Horror hasn't run out of ideas for character names. Proceeds from the auction will go to the First Amendment Project, which you can learn more about on King's site. It may sound zany, but he's not alone. Such best-selling heavyweights as Peter Straub and Amy Tan are doing the same thing.

By the way, if you want to die by Stephen King's pen, you'll have to be a woman. Otherwise you live. Sorry, guys.--Pete Mesling
