In case you haven't noticed, the slasher film has been enjoying something of a comeback in recent years. Remakes like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and high-profile novelty films like "Freddy Vs. Jason" are part of the equation, but filmmakers have ventured into more original territory as well--admitedly with mixed results ("Cabin Fever," "Wrong Turn," "Jeepers Creepers").
It's all a lot to keep track of, but now we don't have to. Adam Rockoff wrote a book called "Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film," and The Hollywood Reporter announces that it's going to be made into a documentary film. ThinkFilm and Starz Entertainment Group are behind the project. They expect to begin filming after the first of the year and release the film before summer's end.
Director Jeff McQueen states that the film itself will be tied together with something like a story and may even offer up a scare or two. Sounds like fun to me.--Pete Mesling
