This is the kind of news that makes you glad you bothered to get out of bed. Filmfanzine reports that "Monkey's Paw" is slated for production under Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's Ghost House Pictures banner. Even with no director announced, it's exciting to see Raimi's name attached to an adaptation of the famous W. W. Jacobs story.
Ever since I first read Stephen King's "Pet Sematary" I've felt that he owed a little something to Jacobs' tale about a couple who wish their son back from the grave and learn in the nick of time to be careful what they wish for. So imagine how mightily quenched was my thirst for irony upon reading Filmfanzine's announcement that "Monkey's Paw" screenwriter Dave Kajganich has also been busy scripting a remake of "Pet Sematary." In fact, he appears to have the remake bug, with scripts for "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "The Changeling" also under his belt and presumably awaiting production.
The IMDb shows a release date of 2007 for "Monkey's Paw."--Pete Mesling
