Showtime Reins in "Masters of Horror"

So much for Showtime's laissez faire stance on the "Masters of Horror" series. Leave it to Dario Argento to bung up the well-oiled machine. Fangoria has a revealing article on their Web site concerning the Italian maestro's film for the series. It's called "Jenifer," and John Landis, always reliable for having a sense of humor about the genre, explains that it "is probably the wackiest one; it's the one where you watch and think, 'What the f**k am I seeing??' because some of it is pretty shocking. They did have to cut one scene for Showtime, involving some cannibalism of a phallus, which is a little severe. I remember when I saw it--and Dario's a very sweet guy-- he said, 'Oh, come look, this is great!' And we were all watching it on the Avid going, 'Jesus Christ!' So it'll be implied on Showtime, but it will be explicit on the DVD."

Even though I'm pretty sure Landis said "fuck," not "f**k," I've retained the soul-saving asterisks for ironic effect. Apparently Fangoria is timid about the f-word but not about the "cannibalism of a phallus."

And what's the skinny on a DVD release of the already highly regarded "Masters of Horror" series, you ask? Anchor Bay will be unleashing it sometime next year.--Pete Mesling
