Sad news for gamers who have been looking forward to "Clive Barker's Demonik." The Horror Channel reports that the game has been cancelled due to the financial straits of Majesco, the backing publisher. Clive's only previous game, 2001's "Clive Barker's Undying," was very well received (and very scary), so hopes were running high for "Demonik," which was to put the player in the hot seat as a demon with the habit of possessing people.
The Horror Channel is waiting for a response from Clive himself on the matter, but his Revelations site offers a few more details, as well as three screen captures from the game (from the link, you'll need to scroll down to the section on "Demonik"). For one thing, there was a movie option attached to the deal, which may or may not have gone up in smoke along with the cancellation of the game. The bright side to this sort of news is that there's never a shortage of projects on the horizon in the Barker camp. It's too bad if this truly is the end of "Demonik," but there's still a lot to look forward to. Take, for instance, the exciting prospect of IDW's comic version of Clive's novel "The Great and Secret Show," which you can learn more about at Chris Ryall's "One Hand Clapping" column for Movie Poop Shoot.--Pete Mesling
