If it's good enough for Dee Snider and Rob Zombie, the director's chair is good enough for Marilyn Manson, it seems. The Horror Channel dishes some preliminary juice about an odd film project for which Manson will be co-writing, acting, directing and providing the music. It's called "Phantasmagoria," and its subject is author Lewis Carroll.
But you can pitch any thoughts of this being a garden variety biopic right out the window with a cry of, "Gardyloo!" Why? Because although Manson himself will be tackling the lead role of Carroll, Alice and the Red Queen are also to figure into the film (the former to be played by Lily Cole, with Angelina Jolie circling the latter role). Sounds a little crazy, but I don't see why it couldn't work. Besides, if you're going to make a movie about Lewis Carroll, maybe it's best not to be too literal--not that Manson is one to shy away from controversy.
Filming is slated to begin this summer.--Pete Mesling
