"The Fly" Returns ... Again

Good god, where's Bill Hicks when we need him? Pop culture has hit a new low. Inevitable, but new. They've stoopped to making remakes of remakes. Yup, I guess David Cronenberg's take on "The Fly" wasn't enough of an improvement over the original Vincent Price vehicle. Todd Lincoln, according to Fangoria, is likely to direct what he calls "both a love letter to and a complete departure from [Kurt] Neumann and Cronenberg’s films." We'll see.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems to me there are a whole lot of insects in the world. We've already got two "Fly" movies--and a brood of sequels. Why not go for something a little more daring? I mean, even "The Horsefly" would be an imaginative leap, no? Or maybe "The Praying Mantis" (the tagline just about writes itself for that one). About the only way another "Fly" film could hold my interest is if it was an out-and-out spoof.--Pete Mesling
