The thing you've got to love about Clive Barker is that although his focus has changed dramatically over the years, both in terms of the content of his fiction and the amount of time he spends on it compared to painting, he never pooh-poohs his early work. Of course, when you start off as strong as he did with his "Books of Blood" back in the early '80s, you really don't owe anyone an apology.
Maybe it's even a little fitting that Dread Central reports "Midnight Meat Train," the film expected to launch a series of "Books of Blood" adaptations, is only now showing any real promise of hitting screens before doomsday. After all, Clive is busy putting the finishing touches on what he's calling his darkest novel to date, "Scarlet Gospels." If his claim turns out to be true, why shouldn't it be accompanied by a resurgence of horror films bearing his name?
The Dreadful ones also assure us that a highly reliable source has cited the following cast: Bradley Cooper, Vinnie Jones and … Brooke Shields (yes, that Brooke Shields). From Clive's official site comes further confirmation that Japanese writer/director Ryuhei Kitamura will be manning the engine as director of "Meat Train."
Shooting is expected to begin next month. The screaming will begin sometime thereafter.--Pete Mesling
