Alex Ferrari, part of the creative team behind 2005's short film "Broken" is back with an even shorter film: "Cyn." Its five-minute running time doesn't give us a lot to go on, of course. My guess is that the film isn't meant to be as free standing as its predecessor, and even the fifteen-minute "Broken" was intended as an appetizer for a feature-length version.
So how does Ferrari spend the slender five minutes he's given himself to convince us that "Cyn" is worthy of the Hollywood treatment? Why, with a hook, of course! There's no need to spoil the surprise, but let's just say the title character isn't your average damsel in distress.
According to the production Web page for the film, "Cyn" was produced on demand when Ferrari made the top 100 of Steven Spielberg's "On the Lot" program for up-and-coming filmmakers. The film cost $1,000 and took a whopping six days to shoot. Talk about guerrilla filmmaking.
