Yesterday I posted about "Open Screen," the amateur night that gives filmmakers an audience for their latest short movies. Today, I thought I'd share an idea to check out if you're having a hard time finding the motivation for the film you've yet to make.
DV Challenge is an underground movement to get crafty minds in a productive mood. Tired of the red tape in more structured 24- or 48-hour film challenges, creator Dylan Couper decided to challenge himself, and you, to make a movie in about a week, no strings attached.
Once every other month, the site posts a new theme. Aspiring directors have about a week to write a script, scout locations, attach actors and finally shoot the whole thing, then another week or so to edit, reshoot and post their creation. The entry fee, if you can even call it that, is only $20 and goes to cover the basic operating costs. Sounds like they've got generous participants, though; on the last challenge, the site raised over $500 for charity. That's my kind of filmmaking.
DV Challenge is currently between challenges, but that might be the perfect timing to get your ducks in a row, ready for the next theme announcement. You might just find the inspiration to finally make that film you've been sitting on for far too long.
Thanks to Shane for the heads up about the opportunity.
