Michelle Williams: Post Brokeback, Baby

Here's how it is: Michelle Williams should have walked home with Oscar on Sunday. I'd be willing to bet that Annie Proulx herself would say no one could have captured Alma on screen the way she did. And if you still don't buy into her talent, may I recommend such overlooked flicks as The Baxter and Imaginary Heroes? One thing's for sure: I'm a fan.

Now, news is that she's attached to The Hottest State, an adaptation by Ethan Hawke of his own novel by the same name. The story is that of a young actor (Mark Webber) struggling through the trials of a fledgling career and a rocky relationship with a musician (Catalina Sandino Moreno, whom you'll remember from her Oscar nominated roll in Maria Full of Grace). As I haven't read the book (though now it's added to my ever-growing list), I can't say which role Hawke has Williams in mind for. But chances are it's a role that's both challenging and intriguing to Williams, as she seems to be the sort of actress who needs something worthwhile to take her away from family.

Have you read the book, or at least know more about it? What role do you think she's in for? I will, of course, keep you informed of any revelations I discover on my own, but input is always appreciated!
