It hit big at Sundance in January, but if you didn't make it to Utah you're getting another shot at seeing Little Miss Sunshine before it breaks big across the country.
Sunshine is the quirky story of one very off-kilter family and their trek from New Mexico to California so Olive, the 7-year-old daughter, can participate in a children's beauty pageant. The characters range from Olive's mute-by-choice brother to her failed inspirational speaker of a father. Packed into a VW bug, the film's site sums up their journey this way:
On their travels through this bizarrely funny landscape, the Hoovers learn to trust and support each other along the path of life, no matter what the challenge.
As heartwarming as it all sounds, the cast populating the screen doesn't disappoint. Present are the always-entertaining Steve Carell and Greg Kinnear and highly-underrated Toni Collette. Alan Arkin is the cantankerous grandfather and Abigail Breslin is Olive.
The film is making its way to select theaters in the next few weeks. Visit the site for a full list of screenings. The locations are fairly extensive, and all that's required is a quick RSVP to your theater of choice. If you do get to go, swing over hear afterwords and let us know what you thought.
And hell, when you go, why not wear a parka and pretend like you're in Park City in January?
Not sure if I'll get to one of the freebies, but I definitely want to see this film. It looks very entertaining...
