Yahoo! Movies is exclusively offering a trailer for "Scoop," Woody Allen's latest film. Since "Match Point," Allen's apparently developed a newfound appreciation for two things: London and Scarlett Johannson.
"Scoop" is about a magician (Allen) and a young American journalist (Johannson) who encounter the spirit of a dead reporter (Ian McShane). The ghost tips them off to a breaking story (the scoop, that is), sending them in hot pursuit of an aristocrat/serial killer (Hugh Jackman). And it's a comedy.
"Match Point" was a breath of fresh air into Allen's long-standing New York-centric films. Johannson, too, wasn't all that bad as the girlfriend turned mistress. The formula--London, Johannson, etc--may or may not work out for him again this time. He's mixed it up a bit, adding himself to the cast and throwing in a few laughs. Whether it works or not, he's not worried about associating the two films. In fact, one of the most peculiar parts of the whole trailer (besides Johannson and Jackman making out) is the credit that reads, "From the director of 'Match Point.'"
Because, you know, we might not recognize the name Woody Allen.
What do you think? Going to catch this one when it hits theaters later this year? And Woody Allen...still a movie-making genius, or are his formulas getting a little tired?
