iklipz Launches Best Film Contest, With Prizes
A farily new site's popped up seeking to mesh the technology of YouTube with the creativity of fledgeling filmmakers. iklipz is a see-and-be-seen kind of site that, between highlighting higer-profile indie filmmakers (they're featuring Ed Burnshttp://www.iklipz.com/Member/MemberProfile.aspx?MemberID=5680's The Groomsmen at the moment), allows users to post their own films and get them out there for the site's visitors to see. Who knows--those visitors might just be a studio exec (OK, an intern) who wants to talk business after seeing your flick.
But what if you don't have the flick to begin with? iklipz (no word on whether that's "eye-clips" or "eclipse") has thought of that too. They're launching a monthly Best Film contest where members can upload their films and put them in the running. Each month, the film with the highest ratings and most views will win a Sony High Definition Camcorder (about $4,000), just the equipment necessary for making more award-winning films. Second and third place winners stand to win a Sony Mini DV Camcorder and a Sony Cybershot Digital Camera, respectively.
The catch? You have to be a member, not just to submit your film, but to rate someone's too. But iklipz isn't crazy--there's no fee associated with joining. Just the endless hours of films to keep you from the work you're already procratstinating on.
Or is that just me?
