John Leguizamo, known for taking roles found off the beaten path (the midget Toulouse-Lautrec in Moulin Rouge, a cross-dresser in To Wong Foo, murdering Tybalt in Romeo + Juliet), is about to add guerilla filmmaker to his resume.
"The Take" is the story of an armored truck driver who, after undergoing rehab for a gun shot suffered on duty, tracks down the criminal who ruined his life. Cast includes Rosie Perez, Bobby Cannavale and Tyrese Gibson.
The extra-low-budget flick is scheduled to start shooting in September, but won't rely on studio help or sets. Instead, they're taking cameras to the streets, filming the movie in mainly Latino neighborhoods. No word if that's mainly Latino neighborhoods in L.A, Chicago, New York or anywhere else; the point is that the film will rely on the environment offered on any given shoot.
The film is helmed by Brad Furman, who's made his mark mainly in music videos. Given those are shot in three days and often more cutting-edge than features, "The Take" could prove to be interesting indeed.
