Earlier this year, a book called "Down & Dirty Pictures: Miramax, Sundance, and The Rise of Independent Film" hit shelves, and I somehow didn't hear about it. What's with that?
The book, written by Peter Biskind, is a no-holds-barred look at what really goes into getting a movie made. As the title states, Biskind splits his attention between Harvey Weinstein when he was holding court at Miramax, and Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival beheamoth. According the the Amazon.com description, it "is a feast of insider stories--each tidbit juicier than the last."
Seriously...why have I not read this book?
Well, it would appear I might not have to. According to Variety (and Cinematical), Down & Dirty is going the way of Fast Food Nation. That is, a (mainly) non-fiction book that's translated to the screen as a narrative story. Screenwriter Dean Craig is on board to adapt for director Ken Bowser.
If the script is half as juicy as the book promises to be, someone's got a hit on their hands. Though I'm guessing it won't be The Weinstein Co.
Holy cow! That sounds awesome. I think I must be living under the same rock that you were. I didn't know about it either!
