I know I just posted about a contest, but I came across another that I think is fairly noteworthy, so I'm passing it along, too. This one is called Little Big Films, and it's a short film competition sponsored by Landmark Theaters.
On the whole, I take issue with the ironic concept behind Landmark--a corporate chain of theaters for independent films? How exactly does that work? Not to mention an older, favorite theater of mine with far more character closed recently because Landmark moved in to the high-end mall down the road. And they put The DaVinci Code on two screens yet only kept Brick for a few short weeks....
Regardless, their conetst, which is already a couple of weeks in, seems like a good shot for aspiring filmmakers who haevn't gotten farther than a short film (or have chosen to stick with short films, if that's your cup of tea). The contest is refreshingly open-ended, the only content regulation being a request to keep films under 10 minutes in length. Each genre--animation, documentary, music and live action fiction--is open to entries for a month (dates specified on the site), the winning film nabbing a cool $1,000. In January, an over-all winner will be selected from the genre winners, receiving a $5,000 cash purse and a Panasonic HD camcorder.
So get crackin'. The animation contest started two weeks ago, and the documentary segment is about to open up for entries. Good luck!
