Cheap Indie Movies in New York

Living in Indianapolis, I'm at the movie industry's mercy when it comes to which films I can see when. Little Miss Sunshine did a few screenings here, so I managed to catch that a few weeks before it came to the local Art House theater. That's the exception, though, not the rule.

So reading an article like this one over at Cinematical only makes me even more jealous of everyone living in New York City than I already am.

The city's Independent Feature Project (IFP) is gearing up for their annual market next month, and have arranged a few days of the month for several theaters to offer discounted flicks for a few days. From Monday, September 18 to Thursday, September 21, a whole slew of movie houses will show all their films for $6 (which, apparently, is a steal in the Big Apple).

Among the films making an appearance during the week is Dito Montiel's directorial debut, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. That film, about a kid coming of age in 1980's Astoria, New York, won the Special Jury Prize and Director's Award at Sundance in January.

If you're in New York, IFP has a list of theaters here. They're also prepping an Independent Film Week website; bookmark it now so you can memorize the screening times later.
