She proved her Oscar-worthy chops in L.A. Confidential and then got gritty in 8 Mile. Since then, and with the exception of The Door in the Floor, Kim Basinger's screen work has been less than notable. Elvis Has Left the Building? Seriously?
News now is that Basinger is signed on for "While She Was Out," a thriller written and to be directed by rookie Susan Montford. With a title like that, something like While You Were Sleeping comes to mind. That's apparently not at all the direction of this film.
Basinger is on board as a suburban mom who heads out on Christmas Eve for some last minute shopping. Only this trip isn't full of holiday cheer; instead, she ends up fighting for her life after being attacked by four "hooligans" in some woods nearby.
Do one-liners like that ever make you wonder how any script in Hollywood makes it past the pitch stage?
