Once upon a time, not too long ago, Bruce Willis' hair, or rather its
conspicuous abundance, color, and varying styles, generated more media
coverage for his movies than any of the films by themselves.
Sad, but true.
Here's the thing: Not that it's important, but it is rather obvious that
Bruce is not blessed with a luscious head of hair. What he does have,
however, is that undeniable, incredibly attractive 'bad boy' allurethe
good guy with the bad attitude that he let hang out back in the "Die Hard"
days. That combined with his infamous smirk is what draws the ladies into
theaters. And quite frankly, all the to do about the hair takes away from
the man.
Mind you, this nonobservance of his persona used to be lucky for Bruce.
Back in the days before box office hits like "Armageddon" and "The Sixth
Sense," all the talk about Bruce's coif conveniently distracted from the
cold hard facts. Mr. Demi Moore wasn't exactly making hit movies. He was,
in fact, better known for his off-screen endeavors, namely the now bankrupt
Planet Hollywood restaurant chain and singing in his band (the name of which
no one can ever remember), mostly at the openings of the aforementioned
restaurants. Surprisingly, during those times, there was neither hair nor
any talk about the lack of it.
Seemingly, this was not entirely lost on the man himself.
He's turned things around and come a long way from the painful platinum
blonde in "The Jackal" and the supposedly digitally enhanced strands in
"Hudson Hawk." Since resuscitating his career, Bruce has redefined his roles
along with his hair. From "The Sixth Sense" to "Disney's The Kid"both
sporting a conservative yet dignified doand the upcoming "Unbreakable," in
which, judging by trailer pictures, Bruce boldly does bald, the man has
gotten his act together.
So, being a firm believer in positive reinforcement, I will graciously
overlook the flimsy, floating wisps he sported only last year in "The Story
Of Us" and write it off as what it wasnothing but a bad hair day.
Eva still longs for those "Moonlighting" days.
