Do not expect to learn anything about yourself from this movie;
profound it is most definitely not. But it is really funny. Very
kitschy. And just so damned '80s.
The story goes: It's New Year's Eve and there's a comet circling the
Earth. Even though last time the big ball of cosmic matter passed
this close it killed all the dinosaurs, no one's particularly
worried. So imagine their surprise when in an instant, everyone on
Earth is turned into either a pile of reddish powder or a mindless
post-apocalyptic zombie!
Everyone except for a few kids, a truck driver, and a bunch of
scientists, that is. Two of the aforementioned kids are a set of
sisters who actually are the main characters of the movie. One's a
total Valley Girl, the other's the type of serious chick that's
usually used to offset a Valley Girl type in any teen movie. They
shop, they kill zombies, they fall in love and save the ... ok they
don't save the planet. Scratch that. But they do crack a lot of jokes
and worry about their hair. That's got to be worth something.
