This Holmes rumor is bolstered by the actress' connections to "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire. Holmes worked with Raimi on his upcoming thriller, "The Gift," and she acted opposite Maguire in Ang Lee's suburban drama "The Ice Storm."
Spider-Man Hype also reports that another "Gift" cast member, Gary Cole ("Office Space"), may take the role of Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson. Previous reports had William H. Macy ("Fargo") as the Jameson front-runner, but it's become apparent that previous "Spider-Man" reports have the value of wampum.
Speaking of previous reports (which we're doing), months of conjecture about Spidey's adversarythe Green Goblinhave yielded little factual information. This important role has yet to be cast, but the latest rumors say Willem Dafoe ("Shadow of the Vampire") is the prime contender. Official word on Dafoe's involvement has yet to surface, so for the time being his name should be added to the growing list of actors who have expressed an "interest" in playing the Goblin. Nicolas Cage and John Malkovich both considered the role, but scheduling conflicts or an aversion to the color green prompted each to pass.
