Indiana Jones 4 in 2004?

Until recently, the long-anticipated Indiana Jones 4 film has remained forever in the future, scheduled to premiere at some distant date years down the road. Well, that distant road may have become slightly better defined now that Coming Attractions reports on a possible 2004 premiere for the film. But keep your undies on for now because this news comes via an "unconfirmed report," which gives it that lovely hint of minty questionableness.

Since I'm clearly grasping for anything resembling "Indy 4" news, here are a couple of innocuous tidbits that may or may not have an effect on the project:

The latest issue of Premiere reports that George Lucas has developed a presence at Paramount, which bodes well for "Indy 4" because all three previous films have been co-productions between Paramount and LucasFilms.

Back in February (yeah, I'm a little late with this one), the New York Times had a wee item that said Oscar-winning "Traffic" screenwriter Stephen Gaghan was asked if he'd be interested in writing the fourth Indy installment. Whom he was asked by and what Gaghan's answer was remain mysteries. Nevertheless, this item is noteworthy because it appears that M. Night Shyamalan has passed on the opportunity to write the script. Perhaps he's too busy cooking up another dumb idea like "Unbreakable."
