Spider-Man 3: Sony Counts its Spiders Before they Hatch

When dealing with normal movies, it would be insane for a studio to announce the release date for a second sequel before the first sequel has even been released. But when talking about the "Spider-Man" franchise, the insanity seems pretty reasonable.

Spider-Man Hype says Sony has set May 4, 2007 as the official release date for "Spider-Man 3." Furthermore, Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and director Sam Raimi will all return for the third web-slinging adventure. Clearly, Sony thinks Spidey has serious moxy -- enough to justify an advance green-light on a third film months before the second movie hits screens.

And speaking of that second movie, Spider-Man Hype also reports that "Spider-Man 2" will arrive in theaters on June 30, two days before its previously announced release date.
