Fantastic Four Lands a Director and Maybe a Thing

The Hollywood Reporter says Tim Story ("Barbershop") has signed on to direct "The Fantastic Four." Based on the Marvel Comics series, "The Fantastic Four" follows a family of superheroes: Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Sue Richards (The Invisible Woman), Benjamin Grimm (The Thing), and Johnny Storm (The Human Torch). In an interesting twist, the characters' superhero identities are not secret -- they're out, they're loud and they're proud.

On the casting front, Variety says inquiries have been made about Michael Chiklis' availability to play The Thing. If Chiklis comes aboard, he'll film his role while his TV cop drama "The Shield" is on hiatus this summer.

"The Fantastic Four" is scheduled to premiere July 1, 2005. We'll be keeping an eye on this project on our spotlight page. -- Mac Slocum
