Possible Star Wars DVD Extras Leak to the Masses

A list of special features included in the upcoming "Star Wars" trilogy DVDs has popped up online, and while the list hasn't been confirmed by 20th Century Fox or Lucafilm, it appears to have at least a trace of validity. How do I know this? Because it doesn't include anything about "Extended Jar-Jar Monologues" or "Deleted Boba Fett-Chebacca Love Scenes." Instead, the list looks quite respectable.

Video Business Online (free registration required) and Dark Horizons have the highlights:

  • Total discs: 4 (the three films and a bonus disc).

  • Video: 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, THX Certified.

  • Audio: English Dolby Digital 5.1 EX; English, Spanish & French Dolby Surround.

  • Each movie disc ("Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi") will have commentary from George Lucas, Carrie Fisher, sound designer Ben Burtt and visual effects guru Dennis Muren.

  • The bonus disc will feature: a 150-minute making-of documentary; a 30-minute featurette about "Star Wars" characters; a 20-minute featurette detailing the influence of "Star Wars"; a 20-minute featurette on the "Star Wars" title sequences; a 10-minute special on light sabers; a collection of teasers and trailers from the original films and the special editions; and a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming "Episode III."
Remember, this list of features has not been confirmed. In fact, the "official" stand is vague, noncommittal, and slightly condescending to fanboy geeks: "Neither Lucasfilm nor Fox has released any information on the special features on the upcoming 'Star Wars' trilogy DVD release. Speculating on 'Star Wars' films has long been a favorite pastime, whether they be theatrical, VHS or now DVD releases," says Fox senior VP Steve Feldstein to Video Business Online. You're a funny guy, Steve.

Regardless of this list's veracity, the extras will be known to everyone on Sept. 21 when the "Star Wars" trilogy is released.
