Tilda Swinton Is Narnia's Witchy Woman

The Hollywood Reporter says Tilda Swinton ("Young Adam," "The Deep End") has landed the role of the evil White Witch in Disney's upcoming adaptation of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe."

The story follows four children as they enter Narnia via a magical wardrobe/portal. The foursome teams with the heroic lion Aslan to challenge the nasty White Witch, who has used a spell to lock Narnia in perpetual winter. Epic drama ensues.

Production on the $100 million project begins this summer in New Zealand with director Andrew Adamson (The "Shrek" movies) overseeing the proceedings. Disney wants "The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe" to be the first installment in a "Narnia" franchise, which is likely since author C.S. Lewis penned seven books in the popular fantasy series. -- Mac Slocum
