Damon and Peet Go Prospecting in Syriana

Matt Damon and Amanda Peet will drill for oil, spies and international intrigue in the thriller "Syriana," says The Hollywood Reporter. Peet is in "advanced negotiations" (what is that, anyway?) to play the wife of an oil executive (Damon) who's wheeling and dealing with a sheik. George Clooney is circling the role of Robert Baer, a CIA agent.

The film is based on Baer's book (yup, he's a real guy) "See No Evil: The True Story of a Foot Soldier in the CIA's War on Terrorism." Stephen Gaghan ("Traffic") wrote the script and will direct, Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic") will produce, which means "Syriana" will have a lot in common with another timely international movie ("Traffic"). -- Mac Slocum
