Denzel Washington Directing Sammy Davis Jr. Bio

Denzel Washington is feeling the love for Sammy Davis, Jr. Variety says the two-time Oscar winner will direct an adaptation of Wil Haygood's Davis biography "In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis Jr."

The Davis flick will be Washington's first directorial effort since 2002's "Antwone Fisher." Unlike "Fisher," Variety says Washington has no plans to star in the Davis biopic.

The title role hasn't been cast, but here's a suggestion: Don Cheadle. He unleashed a fine Sammy Davis, Jr. performance in the 1998 TV movie "The Rat Pack" and those NFL commercials aren't too shabby either.

This project is in its early stages so a production schedule and a release date haven't been announced. -- Mac Slocum
