Denzel Washington Not Directing Sammy Davis Bio

In an interview with MTV, Denzel Washington says he will not be directing a biopic of Sammy Davis Jr. It was previously reported that Washington would adapt Wil Haygood's biography "In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis Jr." but that's just not the case at all.

"[Producer] Brian Grazer and I bought the rights to a great book and we're developing the material," Washington tells MTV. "I guess because it was in the paper, everybody thinks I'm directing it." Whoops.

Washington will serve as a producer on the Davis Jr. picture. A director hasn't been hired.

However, a director has been hired for "The Great Debaters," a true story following an all-black high school debate team in 1935. In an interesting twist, that director's name is Denzel Washington. -- Mac Slocum
