Jessica Simpson is the New Daisy Duke

The rumor has become fact. Pop singer/reality-TV star/professional ditz Jessica Simpson has been cast as Daisy Duke in the movie remake of "The Dukes of Hazzard." Reuters says Simpson will join Seann William Scott (Stifler from the "American Pie" movies) and Johnny Knoxville (former star of MTV's "Jackass"), who have already been cast as Bo and Luke Duke, respectively.

Characters left uncast include Boss Hogg, Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane, Uncle Jesse, Cooter, Deputy Enos, Deputy Cletus and Flash (Coltrane's Bassett Hound). Recent reports say that Burt Reynolds may be the front-runner in the Hogg race. Reynolds is not being considered for the Flash role.

"Dukes" will be directed by Broken Lizard comedy troupe member Jay Chandrasekhar. Chandrasekhar helmed the troupe's two feature films, "Super Troopers" and "Club Dread." -- Mac Slocum
