Singer had to drop out of the third "X-Men" film after signing on to direct Warner Bros.' update of "Superman".
Whedon's supernatural pedigree makes him a natural to pick up the "X-Men" movie pieces, and his pre-existing relationship with Marvel as a writer for the "X-Men" comic books doesn't hurt either.
