Gymanstics Comedy Says Bring It On

The Hollywood Reporter says Disney has acquired a gymnastics comedy titled "Stick It." The movie follows a rebel female gymnast who brings her unorthodox style into the strict world of small women flinging themselves to great heights.

The film sounds a lot like 2000's cheerleader comedy "Bring It On," which followed a cheerleader who uses rebellious "urban" cheering to lead her squad to one of those championships that air at 2 a.m. on ESPN2.

The "Bring It On"-"Stick It" connection is not mere coincidence -- both films were written by Jessica Bendinger. This begs the question: Is this efficient repurposing or self plagiarism? It also begs this sub-question: Why can't I come up with an idea I can use over and over again for financial gain? -- Mac Slocum
