Tom Hanks Takes Aim at Da Vinci Code

Dan Brown's best-selling novel "The Da Vinci Code" could become a blockbuster film before the first frame is shot. Director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer are already adapting the book, and now The Hollywood Reporter says Tom Hanks -- aka The $100 Million Opener -- is circling the lead role.

Mix star power with the book's built-in audience (86 straight weeks on the New York Times hardcover list, thankyouverymuch), and you can see why "Da Vinci Code" investors are already counting their box office receipts.

The Reporter says Howard wants to begin shooting "Da Vinci" next year. Hanks' involvement is not confirmed, but "talks have begun" (translation: big piles of cash are being deposited at Hanks' feet). -- Mac Slocum
