The original "X-Men" movie touched upon Magneto's genesis during a WWII-era concentration camp sequence. Variety says "Magneto" will follow a young Mr. Magneto during the same time period.
"I pitched a film that is almost 'The Pianist' meets 'X-Men,' about a guy who, after watching his family slaughtered, has an awakening of his powers and seeks revenge," says "Magneto" writer Sheldon Turner.
Uh, okay. Weird pitches aside, "Magneto" will also feature a youthful Professor X, who meets Magneto after the war. It's not known what role -- if any -- "X-Men" stars Ian McKellen (the wizened Magneto) and Patrick Stewart (the aged Professor X) will play in the spinoff.
A production schedule and release date have not been released.
