Beyonce Knowles is taking her musical chops to the stage ... and the screen. Variety says the Destiny's Child singer is circling DreamWorks' film adaptation of the Broadway musical "Dreamgirls."
The musical, said to be based on the Supremes' career, followed three friends who strike it big as a singing group. Beyonce knows a thing or two about singing groups, so this project could be classified as "being in her wheelhouse." Alternately, it could be noted as "not much of a stretch."
Bill Condon ("Gods and Monsters," "Kinsey") is writing and directing the adaptation. Condon previously scripted "Chicago," which means "Dreamgirls" has already entered Oscar contention. Production on "Dreamgirls" is slated to begin this fall. -- Mac Slocum
