Variety says Ian McKellen ("Lord of the Rings," "X-Men") and Alfred Molina ("Spider-Man 2") have joined Ron Howard's adaptation of "The Da Vinci Code."
McKellan will play Sir Leigh Teabing, a Holy Grail historian/searcher who plays an integral role in the last half of the story. Molina will play Bishop Manuel Aringarosa, leader of the religious sect Opus Dei.
McKellan's involvement puts the kibosh on at least two "Da Vinci Code" casting rumors: previous reports said Anthony Hopkins and Michael Caine were possibilities for the Teabing role.
